First, pull off a sticky note for each of your employees and stick them to your desk. Then, write these words on the top of each note: “I appreciate you, because …” Follow that opening line with a short note on something you genuinely appreciate about each employee.

It’s a small way for any manager to show that they truly care about their employees. As a result of the Post-it Note recognition, you may find an improved morale around the office and significantly more smiling faces.

It’s been shown that employees who know that they’re appreciated and valued will be more productive and happier at work. During periods of economic uncertainty, it is every manager’s responsibility to help maintain their teams’ morale.

Companies that recognize their top performers regularly and keep them engaged will significantly improve their chances of retaining top talent. Though engaged employees won’t make the recession disappear, they will be your best resource for pulling through it with much more success than you would otherwise.

Employee recognition doesn’t have to be expensive. Sometimes the smallest gesture, like a heartfelt message written on a sticky note, can have the biggest impact.
